LifeSTAR Program Explores Sobriety Strategies for Southern California Addicts and Partners
TUSTIN/LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. (August 21, 2007) – Building on the studied success of the LifeSTAR Network treatment programs, the Center for New Directions has announced plans to implement the three-phase recovery program for Southern California-based individuals, couples and families dealing with pornography and other compulsive sexual addictions. The exponential growth of the porn industry and a growing demand for sexual addiction treatment prompted the Center’s move to form LifeSTAR of Southern California, which aims to help men and women engaged not only in pornography viewing, but also extramarital affairs, excessive self-gratification and various forms of lewd behavior.
“Pornography is a thriving global market, and the size of the industry has eclipsed the combined revenues of all professional football, baseball and basketball franchises. Coupled with its increasing accessibility on the Internet and pay-per-view television, pornography has created a very real need for a sexual addiction recovery program in the area –for addicts and for spouses who need healing as well,” explained Steve Pumphrey, executive director of LifeSTAR of Orange County and Los Angeles County at the Center for New Directions.
The LifeSTAR program’s comprehensive outpatient group therapy setting, which has produced an 85 percent success rate in its clients, enables individuals to learn more about the nature of addiction and effective strategies for long-term sobriety through participation in three program phases:
- Phase I – Getting Started provides workbooks for addicts and their partners, and education about underlying issues.. Its primary focus is to educate and create an environment of support and hope, empowering individuals to make well-informed decisions for successful sobriety and recovery.
- Phase II – Recovery Group takes a deeper look at the addiction cycle, fantasies and objectification, relapse prevention and healthy living, delivered in a ‘safe’ same-gender group. Emphasis is placed on exploring anger, grief and fear in addition to working on healthy boundaries.
- Phase III – Advanced Group addresses faulty negative beliefs, dysfunctional systems, trauma and abuse to reinforce appropriate lifestyle changes. It involves a commitment to group therapy and puts into practice all of the identity and boundary training learned in the program.
Led by certified and licensed therapists, the LifeSTAR program will be offered at 232 West Main Street, Suite 101 in Tustin and 23201 Mill Creek Drive, Suite 220 in Laguna Hills, both of which will serve the greater Southern California area. Plans are being made to offer the program in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernadino and San Diego Counties
